MANY SOUTH CAROLINA "DEADBEATS" ARE JUST "DEAD"

According to one of our sources, "South Carolina [lists] 70,000 "deadbeats" [but in reality] 3,000 are just plain 'dead.' The list is inaccurate because "[South Carolina] never even bothered to run the list through the SSA's Master Death Index Database. "The "source" advises us that he knows this because he sells "SSA'S Master Index Database" to the government and corporations through SSDB.org - a joint effort with the SSA, Department of Commerce, and the Department of Homeland Defense. This makes one wonder how much time, money, and energy is wasted trying to locate and serve people who will never make a court appearance.

We are aware of at least one instance in Dorchester County in which past due chid support was collected from the third wife of the Decedant/Obligor. The reasoning of the Master was that the arrearage was not subject to divestment and that the obligation owed to the child took precedence over the claims of the spouse.

The bottom line is that those who marry late in life should check to see if the new spouse owes child support.
