TABLE 7: COLLECTIONS AND EXPENDITURES--COMPARING ALABAMA, MISSISSIPPI, AND SOUTH CAROLINA

Click Table 7: Collections And Expenditures, FY 2008 to access the most recent federal data regarding child support collections and expenditures among the various states.

Because they are often the States that are "first in everything bad and last in everything good," we were curious as to how Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina compared. Alabama collected $280,243,467, forwarded $22,957,324 to other States, and sent $209,611 to other countries. Mississippi collected $245,318,189, forwarded $12,007,624 to other States and forwarded a measly $42,467 to other countries. South Carolina collected $249,830,407, sent $11,951,866 to other States, and sent $00,000,000 to other countries.

We note that South Carolina collected the lowest percentage of what was owed and sent the least amount to other States and other countries. In other words, South Carolina is again ranked at the bottom.
